With less than half an hour remaining in the non-waiver trade deadline, the Toronto Blue Jays acquired pitcher Mike Bolsinger from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Jesse Chavez and an as-yet undisclosed amount of cash.

Bolsinger, a 28-year-old righty, is 1-4 in six starts this season with a 6.83 ERA over 27.2 innings pitched. Last season, Bolsinger was 6-6 with a 3.62 ERA in 21 starts, amassing 109.1 innings pitched. He is under team control through the 2020 season and is arbitration eligible from 2018-2020. Important given the Jays’ current roster situation, Bolsinger can be optioned to Buffalo while providing rotation depth should the Jays need a starter beyond Drew Hutchison.
Jesse Chavez, who had been considered for a spot in the starting rotation during spring training, was 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA in 41.1 innings pitched out of the bull pen. In his last outing Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles, Chavez lasted just 0.2 innings, surrendering a home run that ultimately meant the difference in the game. In his short tenure with the Jays, he allowed 19 runs to score (some off of inherited baserunners) by way of the nine home runs he has allowed.
