Artificial Turf Wars Ep. 27: A Minor(s) Improvement

Jesse Goldberg-Strassler of the Lansing Lugnuts stops by to discuss some of the prospects that have made their way through the affiliate this season, as well as a general look at the organizational strength in developing pitchers. Greg and Josh also discuss the return of Dioner Navarro to Toronto, the offensive explosion against the Minnesota Twins and the excellent starting pitching against Baltimore, Aaron Sanchez’ dominance of right-handed hitters, Josh Donaldson’s “hat trick,” and the interesting ways the Jays can line up their rotation. Finally they go over September callups and answer some listener questions.

Here is the article referenced during the Sanchez discussion.

So what do the Jays have to do to add a hitter whisperer or two to their farm system staff?

Tass

And what would you want them to whisper exactly? Go and look up what bo bichette said after being drafted by the jays… tells you something about the importance of player development…which the bluejays have been very successful at developing young talent…

How much *hitting* talent have the Jays successfully developed in the past say 5 or even 10 years?

Fwiw, on the current 40-man, there are just 4 field players who’ve come through the system. Pillar is only about MLB-average with the bat, Pompey has potential but remains unproven, Burns seems to have a low ceiling, and the other is Goins.

In addition, do you consider anyone on the Buffalo roster to be a good home-grown hitting prospect?
