Hi Nick. While I've enjoyed your more whimsical pieces, I'm glad you're turning your attention to more analytical work as well.

Are you genuinely available for fantasy baseball consultations? While many of my friends are baseball fans, only one plays in leagues of sufficient depth to be able to provide useful fantasy advice, and he's not always available. Cheers!

Hey Dave,

If I'm understanding your question correctly, park factors do try to account for the quality of the team by measuring a hitter or pitcher's performance against their performance in other park environments. So for instance, in 2015 when the Rogers Centre played as a pitchers park, Blue Jays pitchers surrendered fewer runs/homers/hits at home compared to on the road. Park factors also measure the visiting teams performances - so the 2015 Rogers Centre park factors are based as much on the teams that played against the Jays as the Jays themselves and thus shouldn't be too skewed by the quality of the home team in a specific season.

How does the park factor data account for the run scoring and run prevention of the home team? For example, if you replace the 2015 Jays starting rotation with the 2017 Jays starting rotation, clearly the numbers are going to change, likely resulting in the Skydome being more of a hitter's park, no? This is the thing I've never really understood about park factors.
