First off, thanks for reading and thanks for the comment.

I just have a hard time imagining that Travis sticks around if the Jays were to bring in a big money second baseman like Gordon (Heyman mentioned them as a potential suitor again today, for whatever it's worth). The most obvious resolution would be him heading back to Miami, as someone who's projected to make $1.7M this year in arbitration and under control through 2021 seems like they'd be attractive to the Marlins as they attempt to cut payroll. That's pretty good bang for the buck at the position, and Travis missing games wouldn't be a thorn in the side for a team that's looking to rebuild. If he pans out, great -- but if not it's no big deal.

Despite the injuries, Travis remains a pretty solid option and is still 26 years old. His inclusion in a Gordon trade might also spare the team from losing any players from the minor league pipeline they're so intent on restocking. Things are also already tight on Toronto's 40-man, so they might have to go One-In, One-Out from that perspective. I'm admittedly flying blind in terms of Miami's prospects but a brief look doesn't show any top-end second basemen coming up soon.

He's one of the few younger pieces on the team and should fetch a decent haul on the market given his solid MLB track record. I don't think the odds are particularly high that the Jays would want Travis to sit on the bench since he's not a real utility guy and they already have other logjams that are going to severely limit how often Gibby can use guys off the bench. They can't realistically ask him to back up anything other than second base and while he could pick up some time in the outfield in a perfect world, I don't see it in the cards for the team to ask a guy coming off 151 games in the past two seasons to try and relearn and old position after he's had some early big league success at his new spot.

I really do like the thought of him in left, but I just don't see the organization willing to give it a shot right now. They seem publicly committed to Pearce and Carrera splitting at bats out there for better or worse. This is also the team that forced Jose Bautista and Russell Martin to play the infield last year however, so who knows. The attitude changes if they end up with both Gordon and Travis on the roster but there's a minuscule chance that they approach him about changing positions until then.

"Acquiring Gordon all but ensures the end of Travis’ tenure as Toronto’s starting second baseman."

Very possibly true, but I'm not sure what you mean by it. What would happen to Travis in this scenario?
If I recall correctly, the Tigers had him running around CF before the Jays converted him to a full-time 2B due to positional need. I'm all for Gordon to 2B and Travis to LF. It would add a layer of depth and versatility that most other options wouldn't. I don't know how likely any of it is, but it's my pet off-season obsession.
