At this point I'm pretty much a former Jays fan -- and I used to have seasons tickets. I can't stand listening to either half of Shatkins. They come across as inarticulate and just plain stupid. They have no connection with the fans. Take, for example, their "reaction" to Roy Halladay's death. They put out a press release that was full of cliches. That was it.

With AA, you never knew what he'd do next. His management style was creative. He always seems to be a bit smarter, more cunning that the management of other teams.

You really think Shatkins are capable of the Wells or Donaldson trades? Really?

We've downgraded from smart and articulate to tin-eared and stupid. There aren't two equal sides to this one.

Well stated. But since when does being a Jays fan require being able to think in non-binary terms?

Nice to see some balance in this discussion. I’ve always been puzzled why AA’s departure created so much more fuss than Gillick’s when the latter is widely seen as one of the best GM’s ever.

AA did do some remarkable things such as rebuilding the minors and negotiating some stunning trades. But the Jays would not have made the playoffs without the unbelievably lucky rise of not one but two mediocre veterans into superstars. And while the Jays did make the playoffs for the first time in 20 years, had there been two wildcard teams throughout that period, they would have been playoff bound 3 or 4 times.

So yes I like AA and think he is good, but hardly top of the class...at least at this point. (He’s a smart guy and will keep learning so who knows how good he may become.)

As far as the new regime is concerned, it’s way too early to conclude anything.
