Which players did I overvalue, who would you use as the comparisons instead?
For one, I did mention paying down some of the deal and including Smith to bump his value up. Also, it seems like you're forgetting that he is still very good.
Thank you for your comment.

Thank's for the comment Bill. I'm sorry if I didn't address RBIs or batting average, but I wrote it as a simulation of what most modern GMs will be looking at, for example TAv, wOBA, PECOTA projections, internal projections. The sort of thing that doesn't show up on the back of the baseball card.
Bautista's second half projections are in line with what you might expect out of Carlos Beltran in the second half of last year, not to mention you get slightly more positional versatility. If you read carefully, I mentioned paying down the deal to get added return.
Martin has been one of the best hitting catchers this season and every season, not to mention still-above-average framing numbers, leadership qualities that are undeniable, and the added benefit of playing infield in a pinch.
Thank you for your comment.

Like most fans you have overvalued the Blue Jays. The highlight chuckle I got from your article is how in the world do you expect Russell Martin to be traded with $40 million still due on his contract AFTER this season. I'm afraid you need to lower your expections.

totally pie in the sky returns, you seriously need to take off your blue jay colored glasses, beltran was 2 300 hitter at the time of his trade and well on his way to 100 rbi. bautistista is nowhere near that and signoficantly more expensive at a longer term

Lucroy was much younger and cheaper and better hitter than Martin as well.. until you can accurately assess value from an unbiased position your evaluations are worthless.

cole the first thing you do if you are really delve into player analysis through statistical measures, along with mechanical analysis, is to accurately develop a baseline, which you obviously have not done. if you had your obvious bias, wouldnt lead you to such unfounded conclusions
