I think the Jays would be crazy to leave Ryan Goins off their roster. Defensively, he's amazing! Yes, he needs more work offensively, but he is always trying to improve (he worked with Tulo over the off season on his bat). And Goins is not just a second baseman, originally he is a short stop. The chemistry between Tulo/Goins is amazing, the double plays they can turn is impressive. This is all just my opinion. And I would hate to see Goins leave, since he is my favourite player (has been since he first came up in 2013. Been wearing his jersey for years!)

What about the impact of having a solid defensive player behind you at 2nd base as a pitcher. You think all the fumbles and misplays by Travis are forgotten about, let alone the whole team. The flare that Goins plays with fires up the entire team which can lead to a momentum shift. There are more things to look at than just the "stats"

I think with Goins the nostalgia comes from moments like July 1 when he pitched an inning, and simply his full utility status. We Jays fans have a thing for our utility players, despite their numbers. It makes it hard to let go when the rational argument is quite clear.

I think it explains some of the Pillar utilizing as well. Put him against Kiermeir and its clear by numbers who is better, but the moments Pillar gives are better. Baseball is made of moments so unless you are following the stats its easy to say Kevin is better.

I will miss Goins if he does leave. He has been an awesome presence on this team and held the defence together. That being said, I will pick Barney over him, because a championship means more
