Adding the CH after the surgery makes some sense, but you're right, it's bad. Sliders can be high stress on the elbow so it might be hard for him to be a two-pitch guy in the rotation for the long term, but that would be much less of an issue in the bullpen, I'd think.

I also agree that it's hard to see Arizona trading him. Maybe the old front office, or if Tony La Russa still has a lot of say as an adviser, but I'm sure a smart guy like Mike Hazen has already figured out what he has, and would either hang onto him or market him like the full-fledged dominant reliever I suspect he could be. It wouldn't be a cash dump or for the team's 15th best prospect or something, that's for sure.

Thanks for checking the piece out!

Hey Kyle, great stuff! As a D-backs writer, I can attest to Corbin's "bastard of a breaking ball." He can get righties out with it as it has some pretty good two-plane break and it's just devastating to lefties. The change was something we started hearing more about as he was returning from TJ with the idea that it would take some of the stress off his elbow. The pitch just never worked and we wrote about it several times last year. He's a two-pitch guy through an through. At some point, it's time to cut bait on the CH and just let the SL rip, which he started doing more late in the season, I believe. I'd like to see Arizona keep him and I think they will, but the Miller idea is a strong one, and it's nice to have that as a floor for a cost-controlled player.

Very interesting. I wonder how available he'd be. A reliever doesn't have to be great to warrant $4.2M any more, so unless AZI is seriously looking to dump salary, they may not have much reason to move him unless they feel they're selling high.

This is fantastic Kyle. Crazy that Corbin gets almost a 20% bump in his whiff/swing rate when he comes out of the 'pen.

Even crazier is that if you expand that leaderboard to include starters + relievers, Blake Snell (56%) is the only starter in the top-19 of that whiffs/swing leaderboard. Probably a guy who should increase his slider usage from 12%.
